"'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.' And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them." - Mark 10:14-15

Mission Statement

At Oreland Presbyterian Church Weekday Nursery School, the fundamental blocks of Christian faith, fun, learning and socialization are cultivated in a nurturing environment. Acknowledging each child as a unique individual, we enhance a positive self-image which enables children to master age appropriate skills.

Our emphasis on creative teaching, learning through play and one-on-one interaction provides a positive experience and develops the child’s confidence towards future education.

School Overview

We are a Christian Nursery School that strives to share Jesus with the children while offering the highest quality early childhood education. The class hours are from 9 am to noon with the exception of our Two's class which runs from 9:15 to 11:45 am.  The 2008-2009 school year runs from September 8th to May 22nd, with a two week camp program offered during the last week of May and first week of June. We have five different classes this year: Two day Two's class, a Two day Three's Class, Two Three Day Three's Classes, a Three Day Four Year Old Class, and a Five Day Four Year Old Class. Class sizes range from twelve for 2 years olds to eighteen children for 4 year olds.

Summer Camp

A camp program is offered the last week of May and first week of June.  This program is held daily from 9:00 to noon and is available to children who are 3 by June 1st and are toilet trained.

Christian Education

Spiritual growth is encouraged through daily grace and celebration of all Christian holidays. Bible stories, discussions, and songs are presented according to the children’s level of understanding. Pastor Jim Farrell visits the classrooms monthly to share a Bible story or lesson.

Music & Gym

We have a music teacher who visits the classrooms weekly. Singing is accompanied by the piano, and simple rhythm instruments are introduced. The children perform a Christmas concert and an end-of -year concert for their families. Gym classes are held twice a month. The children get involved in music and movement, tumbling and imaginative play. Parents are invited to the last gym class of the year to watch their children and participate in a giant parachute game.

Classic Acts

This is also a once a week afternoon class designed for children in our 3 year old classes as well as those in the community who have turned 3 by Sept. 1, 2007. The children read, create artwork and act out various classic stories such as "The Little Engine That Could", "Goldilocks" and more. The cost is $60 for a four week session.

Young Explorers

These are once a week afternoon classes offered periodically throughout the year. They are designed to further enhance the children’s learning experiences. Each six week session covers a variety of topics, including insects, sea life, and using “passports to travel around the world”. The classes are open to children in our 4 year old classes and the children in the community who have turned 4 by September 1, 2007. The cost is$90 for a six week session.

Programs

The classroom curriculum is based on the age and maturity level of each class.  The younger students participate in free play, arts and crafts, games, and music tailored to develop social skills, fine and large motor skills, and to introduce simple academic concepts.   In addition to this, the Four-Year Old classes focus on skills that prepare the children for kindergarten, such as letter recognition, printing and counting.

Tuition

Tuition is paid on a monthly basis, with scholarships available to those in need.  Church members and families with more than one student also receive a discount.

The School Board Ministry Team is approved by the Oreland Presbyterian Church's Nominating Committee each year and is directly accountable to the Session. The Board consists of a mix of church representatives and dedicated parents. Anyone interested in participating is welcome to apply.
